  • TOUR SUMMARY: Ethiopia’s wealth of historic sites and an identity defined by its own history and diverse cultures rather than by colonialism is what distinguishes it from most other African destinations. WHEREAS, its ancient and medieval monuments, its proud and colorful cultures and its varied and often unique wildlife set it apart from all else. In this tour you will cover ADDIS ABABA, the capital, DIREDAWA, HARAR, WUKRO & NEJASHI, & MEKELE, the capital of Tigray Regional State. DIRE DAWA Dire Dawa is a city in Ethiopia divided by the usually dry Dachata River. The colonial quarter, Kezira, features wide streets and a rail station dating from the French development of the railway. Megala, the old town, has Islamic-style architecture and several markets. Dominating these is the popular Kafira Market, which has local produce. HARAR Harar is the capital city of the Harari Region. The ancient city is located on a hilltop in the eastern part of the country and is about 500 kilometers (310 mi) from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at an elevation of 1,885 meters (6,184 ft). For centuries, Harar has been a major commercial center, linked by the trade routes with the rest of Ethiopia, the entire Horn of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Asia, and through its ports, the outside world. Harar Jugol, the old walled city, was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2006 by UNESCO in recognition of its cultural heritage.[8] Because of Harar's long history of involvement during times of trade in the Arabian Peninsula, the Government of Ethiopia has made it a criminal offence to demolish or interfere with any historical sites or fixtures in the city. These include stone homes, museums and items discarded from war. According to UNESCO, it is "considered 'the fourth holiest city' of Islam" with 82 mosques, three of which date from the 10th century, and 102 shrines. NEGASH MOSQUE, The site of the first Muslim settlement in Ethiopia, granted to more than 100 early Islamic refugees (including Mhammed’s daughter Rukiya and his future wives Uma Habiba and Uma Salama) by the Axumite Emperor Asihima in AD630. The mosque was established after 615 CE, when the first Muslims are said to have migrated to Ethiopia during the reign of Najashi. The mosque complex features tomb behind the main mosque building. There are 15 tombs of the first immigrants in Islam to Ethiopia ITINERARY Day 1: Arrival Addis Ababa ET 639 (23:05 – 06:10) Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. On arrival meet and greet by your guide and set out to drive to your hotel and early check in. In the mean time have halal breakfast in the hotel and make yourself ready for the city tour of Addis Ababa. You will have a full day city tour of seeing two largest mosques in Addis Ababa Alaksa (Blue Mosque) and Anwar Grand Mosques, will also attend Solat in one of the mosques mentioned for mid-day prayer. After Solat and lunch in one of the famous Yemeni Restaurant, B¡ati AlMendi known for their Traditional Arabic, Mediterranean, Indian and local dishes: Rice, Lamb, Superior Lamb broth, Tandoori, Tikka, Biryani, Masala, Cury, Nana Appetizers: Hummus, Felafel, Salads, Sambusa Juices: Lemonade, Limonana, various fruit Juices House Complimentary: Arabic Spiced Tea, Deserts: Gulab Vegan options available. Continue drive up to the mount Entoto for a wonderful panoramic view of the city of Addis Ababa, the official capital of Ethiopia and diplomatic capital of Africa. Addis Ababa is established during the reign of Emperor Menelik in 1887. Later drive down to the city center to visit some of an important landmarks and monuments in town. The visit also goes to Merkato, one of the largest open-air markets in Africa. Heading to Bilalu Habesha Museum that exhibits wonderful collection of Islamic religious manuscripts and precious staffs. Visiting the National Museum is also worthful to experience both historical and pre historical relics that has been sheltered for generations. Before wind up the tour will also go to TOMOKA, coffee shop to test and buy Ethiopian Coffee Arabica branded for its strong test. Dinner will be served in Allenany Lebanon Restaurant. Overnight: Skylight or similar hotel (*****) Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 2: Fly to Addis Ababa- DireDawa-Harar ET 248 (11:45 – 13:00) After breakfast take a scheduled flight to Dire Dawa. On arrival the bus driver will pick you up to the famous Al Basha Muslim restaurant, known for their rice vegetable and Mendi. Afterwards, drive to Harar, the capital of Harari region. En route there will be a stop for a short refreshment (Tea), photo and toilet stop in the town of Haromaya. On arrival at Harar (WHS), directly ahead for the tour to the waled town of Jagol and the spice market beside the village visit of the Adare people. Solat will be in one of the mosques in the walled city. Proceed to visit the new city of Harar before you wind up the tour at the Hyaena feeding. Overnight: Grand Gato or similar hotel (****) Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 3: Drive to Dire Dawa and Fly to Addis Ababa ET 209 (16:40 – 17:50) After having breakfast in the hotel depart to Dire Dawa for another couple of hours. On arrival at Dire Dawa, ahead to the most historical mosque called Bilal Masjid for solat and experiencing to meet with locals for mutual understanding. After the mosque visit the Chemin de fer square, where the first railway line has started. Lunch will be at Menelaos Roast Chicken Restaurant; before you leave out to the Air port for a flight back to Addis Ababa. Up on arrival depart for check in to the hotel and refreshment before going out for dinner. Dinner will be in Aladdin restaurant, famous for juice, hummus, Lebneh & Falafel. Aladdin's menu has a mix of Armenian and Lebanese options. Overnight: Skylight or similar hotel (*****) Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 4: Addis Ababa – Mekele – Nejashi-Makele ET 102 (08:10 – 09:45) After an early breakfast in the hotel proceed to Addis Ababa Bole International Air port for another scheduled flight to Mekele, the regional capital of Tigray regional State. On arrival at the Airport meet with the bus driver to transfer to Planet Hotel for an early check in. After check in drive to Kayr Arabic and local restaurant for lunch. After lunch get-up-and-go to Nejashi for a visit of the ancient historical Mosque and the tombs behind the mosque. There is a big opportunity to perform Solat in there before leave out to Mekele for overnight. Dinner will be in the hotel. Overnight: Planet or similar hotel (*****) Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 5: Mekele –Addis Ababa, Depart. ET 107 01:55 pm- 03:30 pm /ET 638 11:50 pm Morning tour Breakfast in the hotel and drive to the city of Mekele for main land marks including the old palace of John the fourth. Lunch will be served at Nur Muslim restaurant. Traditional coffee ceremony will be organized for your memory of Ethiopian coffee and culture. After that leave out to Atse Yohannes Air Port for your flight back to Addis Ababa. On arrival, meet and transported to Benin Mosque for the afternoon Solat and purchasing Ethiopian traditional T-shirts, Fridge Magnets and Coffee beans. Late in the afternoon head to a basic local hotel for day use room (two Rooms) to take a shower and change clothes. In the evening, will have a Halal Farwell dinner. After dinner you will be transferred to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your departure back home. Meals (B, L, D)
